Film Gear
Shooting the film Time and Charges made me realize I needed to "pimp out" my camera for the sake of the film and myself as a filmmaker. Being an Independent Filmmaker I cut corners for too many years and decided it was time to spend some cash on my baby, the Panasonic HVX200. Before I bought her my workhorse was the trusty DVX100, but as everyone knows she is now obsolete thanks to new technology. I set my sights on a matte box and finally decided on a Genus with rails and a french flag for $750 from good 'ole B&H Photo.com. It was painful to blow so much money on something that keeps the sun out of your lens and holds filters but it was definitely time. Now that I had rails I bought a follow focus and lens gear. For Indie shooters who need a follow focus and don't have a lot of money I recommend going to www.dfocusystem.com. David Aldrich is the maker of the follow focus system and he'll treat you right. After that I went out and bought a cheap 7'' lcd monitor on ebay. It works well but I probably should've bought a nicer one from B&H. It works great when the director or producer want to see what you're shooting while you're looking through the diopter.
Now once again new technology has reared it's ugly head and I must upgrade again. I now drool in anticipation for the release of the Red One Scarlett (www.red.com)!! It hasn't hit the consumer market yet but when it does I'll probably have to get it.
That's all for now folks and in the words of Quentin Tarantino, always consider yourself a filmmaker who writes stuff for himself to do!!!
